Health Tips

Before entering Nigeria, a visitor should make sure of the following:

A yellow fever vaccination as you may be asked to present the certificate of vaccination on arrival.

If a visitor is traveling extensively throughout the Country, then immunization against meningitis is also a worthy precaution.

Vaccinations/boosters for typhoid, tetanus, hepatitis A and cholera.

Malaria protection is strongly advised and Mosquito protection measures (nets and Repellents) are important at all times. It is advised  to consult a doctor for other options available.

All travelers should visit their personal physician Or a travel health clinic 4 to 8 weeks before departure.

Pharmacies (drug stores) are many in Nigeria, even in supermarkets which are opened during normal working hours.

Private clinics/hospitals are found in both towns  and major cities.

The cost of medical services is, in most cases paid  in cash, Payment by the patient’s private health insurance is not accepted in most hospitals/clinics.

In case of a serious medical emergency, a visitor  should contact his embassy.
